When documentaries focus on artists, talking heads are often used: people who make statements in interview excerpts, describing, for example, the influence of the person being portrayed or providing information about their biography. In other cases, a narrator or text panels take over this task. Director Regina Schilling dispenses with all such devices in her film " Igor Levit – No Fear." Instead, she lets Levit and his music speak for themselves.
Born in Gorky in 1987, the pianist and his family emigrated from Russia to Hanover in the mid-1990s as Jewish quota refugees. After studying at the Institute for Early Intervention for Musically Gifted Students at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media and performing in various concerts, Levit received a recording contract with Sony Classical in 2013. Starting in May 2019, Schilling and her camera team accompanied him through his daily life until mid-2020.
